New Employee Orientation Checklist

_____ Review files created by the previous job holder
_____ Schedule interviews with key people
_____ many more possibilities related to a new employee’s specific position
Benefits Office will contact the new employee about attending the Benefits Orientation, and it will be within 31 days
of his/her date of hire.
Sexual Harassment workshop. Those workshops are usually in November and April and LHR will inform the new
employee of the details.

___ Work hours and scheduling
___ Reporting work hours in Itams
___ Types of leave (sick, annual, comp time, conference, release time, flex time)
___ Expectations for calling in sick
___ Inclement weather policy
___ Staff development programs/training (including campus training)
___ Dress code
___ Orientation to departmental resources (policies, procedures manuals, where to get and how
to request supplies)
___ Mail policies and procedures for campus mail
___ Eating/drinking in department and library
___ Requesting time off for vacation
___ Thomas Cooper Library backdoor policy
S ____ Explain phone (including voicemail if appropriate)
S ____ Explain e-‐mail system (client, web interface). Find your department’s copy of the Outlook book.
S ____ If appropriate, have employee order business cards when email address is known. Remember that
something can be printed on the back as well.

S ____ Tour the library concentrating on key operations and relations to one’s own position and department.
Have the new hire meet at least one person in a department.
