5 HIGHLIGHTS ARL ACADEMIC LAW LIBRARY STATISTICS, 2004-05 • Out of 113 ARL university libraries, 77 responded to this survey.1 • Law libraries reported median values of 313,574 volumes held and 7,435 volumes added. Also, these libraries employed the full-time equivalent of 2,259 staff members in the fiscal year 2004-05. • Responding libraries reported total expenditures of $200,223,137.2 As seen in the graph below, materials expenditures made up the largest portion of the total, with 46.4% of aggregated expenses falling under a materials-related category. • Law libraries reported a total of $11,858,683 on electronic materials, or a median of 13.69% of their total materials budgets. This includes a total of $10,235,586 on electronic serials. Expenditures in ARL Law Libraries, 2004-05 Contract Binding 0.82% Total Library Materials 46.40% Total Salaries &Wages 44.60% Other Operating Expend. 8.18% 1 78 ARL university libraries included data for a Law library in the 2004-05 ARL Statistics among them, British Columbia, Laval, and Manitoba did not complete this survey. Colorado and Hawaii completed this survey but did not include a Law library on the ARL Statistics. Rutgers has two administratively independent Law libraries, which respond separately to this survey they are aggregated together in the ARL Statistics. 2 This figure includes Canadian universities, whose expenditures were converted to U.S. dollars at the rate of 1.24971 Can$ =1 US$, the average monthly noon exchange rate published in the Bank of Canada Review for the period July 2004-June 2005.
